Our Story

🌿 Refugees Helping Refugees

Introduction

RefugeeHelp.site was born from the lived experiences of refugees, by refugees, for refugees. Since 2012, we have witnessed firsthand the silent struggles of those forced to flee persecution, conflict, and systemic discrimination—families like ours, who left everything behind in search of safety.

Living as a refugee in Malaysia is not easy. Refugees here have no legal right to work, attend public schools, or access affordable healthcare, leaving families in daily fear of eviction, hunger, and sickness without support. In these shadows, we saw mothers skipping meals so their children could eat, children staying home while others go to school, fathers returning from informal jobs unpaid, and families afraid to seek hospital care because of language barriers or fear of arrest.

We saw these needs, and we could not look away.

🌱 How We Started

RefugeeHelp.site started with small acts of support:

✅ Helping a mother pay overdue rent so her children would not be evicted.
✅ Delivering rice, oil, and essentials to a family with no income.
✅ Accompanying a sick refugee to the hospital to interpret for her.
✅ Filling out resettlement documents and following up tirelessly with embassies and agencies.
✅ Providing a bus card for a child to attend a refugee learning centre.

As refugees ourselves, we understood these challenges deeply. We knew how it felt to fear police raids, to hide from landlords, to choose between medicine and food, and to feel invisible in a world that moved on without us.

🌿 Our Mission

RefugeeHelp.site is committed to restoring dignity, hope, and practical support to refugee families in Malaysia and beyond.

We believe every refugee deserves:
Food on their table.
A roof over their heads.
Access to healthcare.
Education for their children.
A chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.

We are not an organization looking down to help refugees. We are refugees, helping refugees, using our shared experience, languages, and trust within the community to ensure aid reaches those who need it most.

🌿 What We Do

🔹 Emergency Food and Rent Aid
We provide monthly food packs and rent support for families at risk of eviction or starvation.

🔹 Hospital and Police Interpretation
We accompany refugees to hospitals and police stations, providing translation and moral support while ensuring their rights and dignity are respected.

🔹 Medical Assistance
We cover urgent medical expenses for refugee mothers, fathers, and children who cannot afford treatment.

🔹 Education and Transport Support
We help pay school fees and transportation costs so refugee children can attend learning centres, ensuring they do not lose years of education in displacement.

🔹 Document Support
We assist in filling out documents for UNHCR, resettlement, and hospital registration, navigating a complex system in a language refugees often do not understand.

🔹 Community Advocacy
We raise awareness about the plight of refugees within local and international communities, ensuring refugee voices are heard.

🌿 Why Refugee-Led Matters

Refugees understand refugees.

✅ We know the urgency when a mother calls crying because she has no milk for her baby.
✅ We understand the fear when a family faces eviction.
✅ We know how it feels to wait for a hospital to treat your child while worrying about payment.
✅ We know the isolation of living in a foreign land without family or community.

Because of this, we can act fast, with compassion, accountability, and cultural understanding that others often cannot match.

🌿 Impact So Far

Since starting, we have:
✅ Helped over 250 refugee families avoid eviction by providing rent support.
✅ Distributed thousands of kilos of food to refugees in crisis.
✅ Assisted hundreds of refugees in hospitals and police stations through interpretation and support.
✅ Paid for critical medical treatments, from emergency surgeries to chronic illness medication.
✅ Supported refugee children’s education through fee payment and transport cards.
✅ Assisted refugees in completing resettlement documentation, helping families move forward toward a safer future.

🌿 Looking Ahead: A Future of Dignity and Hope

RefugeeHelp.site aims to grow sustainably, expanding:
✅ Monthly food packs to more families.
✅ Our medical fund for urgent treatments.
✅ Scholarships for refugee children.
✅ Community-led mental health and women’s support programs.

We are also working toward establishing a refugee community centre where refugees can learn English, receive skill training, access counseling, and find a safe space of belonging.

🌿 How You Can Help

We cannot do this alone. Your support means:

🌼 $25 feeds a family for a week.
🌼 $50 keeps a refugee child in school for a month.
🌼 $100 covers medical tests for a sick refugee.
🌼 $250 prevents eviction for a family for a month.

Every contribution, no matter how small, transforms fear into hope for families who feel forgotten.
